Task #1 - Research Web 2.0

This task demonstrates collaboration among students and how information shared can be edited by more than one person.
What is Web 2.0 and why is it important? The following Web 2.0 articles should aid your understanding.
Web 2.0 Made Simple Web 2.0 + Web 2.0 - I've Looked at Clouds from Both Sides Now - This is a presentation Sharon Sumner and I did for the METC 2010 conference.

Task #2 - Choose a Web 2.0 tool to share

Once you read the articles, your task is to research Web 2.0 tools. Use the link above to search or try searching the topic in Google. You will be amazed at all the tools for teaching and learning that are available, many of which are free. Where were these things when we were going to school?????
Explore several tools that you think would be beneficial in the classroom or useful for professional development.
Sign up for some online tools and/or download others that are programs (most give you a free demo time.) Use the tools to create something of your own. Be sure to read through the online Web 2.0 Wiki Project Rubric before you begin so you will know what is expected of you. Keep in mind in Task #3 you will need to share the Web 2. tool you chose, explain why you chose it and how you used it, and explain how your tool can be used to meet specific needs of diverse learners.

Task #3 - Edit your Web 2.0 Tool Site Page

You will then create your own page, click on plus sign, next to "pages and files" on the menu bar to the left. On your new page tell your classmates all about the Web 2.0 tool you have chosen to share. Make sure you click on the edit button to get started on your page and don't forget to save your work! Name your page with your name so it will be easy to find when you go to link it to the wiki. Once you are done with your page, you will need to link it to my page titled "WEB 2.0 Tools". To do this, open my page, click edit, and then type the name of your web 2.0 tool followed by your name. Highlight the name of your web 2.0 tool with your mouse and then click the "link" button on the edit bar. You are going to link a page, so choose the name of the page you just created.
Also make sure someone else has not already reported on the tool you chose. If they have, you must choose another one.
When you edit your page, make sure to make it visually appealing. Change the font, color, add pictures, videos, links to what you created, etc.. This is part of your grade.
  1. You will link to the tool's URL, give a short introduction to the tool: explain why you chose it and how you used it,and explain how your tool can be used to meet specific needs of diverse learners. If your creation is online, link to it for us to view. If it is a file on your computer, you can upload it to your page by by clicking on Attachments at the bottom of your page.
  2. Note: You are free to change the visual aspect of your page. Your grade will reflect that you have used some visual tools to make a pleasant-looking page. Use organization techniques such as inserting a table, hyperlinks, or bullets to make your information easy to read and access. Participation in this assignment will become a part of your Web 2.0 project grade as reflected on the online project rubric.

Task #4 - Share a Web 2.0 Tool for Accommodating Diversity

Click on the Web 2.0 Tools for Diversity link located on the sidebar, and click on Edit. On this page, you will share a Web 2.0 tool. This can be the one you researched and chose for Task #3 or it can be a different one. You must link to that tool's site and explain how this tool allows for accommodations for individuals with special needs, ELL, cultural and ethnic differences, etc. To do this, type the name of the tool you chose on the Web 2.0 Tools page, highlight it, then choose "Link" in the Editor Menu Bar above. Follow the directions to link to a webpage. Also choose to Open in a new window.. Please add your name as the author.
If someone else has already written about the Web 2.0 tool you wanted to share here, you must pick a different one.
  • I suggest you do Google searches to help you find Web 2.0 tools accommodating diversity. You will be amazed at what you will find. For example, search:
  • Web 2.0 tools for ELL
  • Web 2.0 tools for Diversity
  • Can you think of others?
